2012 South King County Concerto Competition Rules

Seattle Festival Orchestra has a long standing tradition of featuring young concerto soloists during our regular season concerts. This competition offers the public the chance to see the future's most promising talents of today and ensures the future of classical music is in good hands.
By entering the competition, student (performer) and parents/guardians agree to the following rules:

  • Performer must be available for performances on two consecutive Sundays in March 2013 (TBD by SFO), the Saturday just before the first concert, and several Tuesday evening rehearsals preceding the concert as well.
  • Performer must have music memorized for the performances and no later than the first rehearsal.
  • Orchestral parts must be easily obtainable by SFO, or soloist can procure the parts for the orchestra.
  • Performer and parents/guardians agree to not hold Seattle Festival Orchestra (SFO), its Board, or any of its staff liable for any damages that may occur as a result of participation in this competition, and participation in all associated events, including rehearsals, performances, and advertising/media events.
  • Performer and parents/guardians understand that SFO cannot guarantee the successful performance of applicant's work and may have to cancel the concert(s) due to some unforeseen circumstance.
  • If you enter with only a single movement and are selected, you will only be eligible to play that movement. If you want to perform the full concerto, you must be prepared to play any part of that concerto in competition.
  • SFO reserves the right to NOT pick any finalist or winner if the repertoire or performance quality does not fit within our guidelines.
  • Application Deadline May 31, 2012.
